You are what you eat, dieticians say. So what are we when 100% of papaya, 80% of soy and over 70% of dried baby food are genetically modified? So many health complications have been attributed to GMO food consumption and guess what? Our kitchens are now filled up with these food products loaded up with GMOS. An anti-GMO protest rally is annually organized in Berlin to create awareness to this invisible monster and more countries such as Switzerland, Spain, and Venezuela among others have placed bans on food products containing GMOs. On the other hand, pro-GMO entities especially food manufacturers have argued that transgenes are completely harmless and in fact enables farmers achieve high yields during harvest and could potentially help feed humanity.
Are the dangers of GMO food being exaggerated or are our dinners and humanity facing an existential threat?
