Every winter, the snow in the Arctic hides millions of rusty barrels, abandoned machinery and chemicals. When the pioneers of the Arctic islands explored these lands, they had no resources to remove waste. The «Clean Arctic» project began almost a year ago to save the Russian North and the world ocean from contamination. This time volunteers traveled to Heiss Island on Franz Josef Land, which is one of the northernmost territories on our planet, about a thousand kilometres from the North Pole. Was their mission successful? Will the pristine beauty of the Arctic shores be preserved for future generations?
