Freediving is a dangerous sport that involves swimming underwater without breathing apparatus. For Russian freedivers, it is a life-long romance with the sea and a whole lifestyle. Despite the risks, the lure of the underwater world and the competitive spirit of freediving, outweigh any thoughts about the dangers it presents. Natalia Molchanova, one of the world’s best freedivers, disappeared off the Spanish coast in 2015. For her, freediving was a philosophy and a way of finding harmony with the world. Her legacy continues through her son, Aleksey, who is determined to continue what his mother started and strives to dive ever deeper.
