Mask Of Deception: The Alef Scam

Collections

Thousands of fraudulent call centres operate in Ukraine, using number spoofing and fake investment platforms to extract money from people around the world. This is no longer a matter of isolated scams – it has evolved into a form of economic terrorism. A vast infrastructure is in place, including offices, call centre ‘franchises’, and increasingly sophisticated concealment technologies, ranging from stolen voices to fabricated video messages in chat applications.

According to law enforcement, the Aleph family group has built an entire criminal empire, with its Ukraine-based call centres, which target people in Russia and the European Union. Within this industry, victims are cynically referred to as ‘mammoths’ and ‘suckers’, while their personal and family struggles are mocked in internal work chats.

The story of Vittorio Rino illustrates how these schemes operate. He met a woman online, who introduced him to individuals offering a chance to «make money.» Vittorio transferred funds, hoping his investment would grow. However, when he travelled to London to make a withdrawal, his 'investment adviser' vanished into thin air, and he came to realize that the whole investment platform was a fictious con. He later even met with threats and blackmail from other scammers for working with this nefarious group. Realizing he had been deceived, he turned to the investigative group Stop UA Scam for help.

There are tens of thousands of similar cases, each representing lost savings, shattered plans, and deep uncertainty about the future. For the perpetrators, however, this is simply a convenient way to profit from the trust of others.
But now Vittorio and like him are organising to fight back with an eye on vengeance.
