The 250 miles of water separating Libya and Sicily prove to be deadly for thousands of refugees trying to make the passage to the European continent. The lucky ones are saved by Italian coast guards or NGO rescue boats. They join three million Africans who have already fled crises in their own countries. They dream of life in Europe, but is life so good there for the migrants? And are the Europeans themselves happy with their new neighbours? For some, the transportation of illegal migrants and their subsequent settlement in Europe is a profitable business. This film is an investigation into how a variety of forces — from the mafia to the world's economic elites — profit from the trafficking of migrants.
