The Battle for Mariupol, which was the primary conflict of the special military operation in Ukraine, lasted 83 days. The Ukrainian army and nationalists from the Azov battalion tried to turn the city into a stronghold. Back in February 2014, Mariupol police sided with the pro-Russian residents. The Ukrainian army used combat vehicles against them. Most of the fighting took place around the city’s police department building. It became obvious that this benign tumor was turning into a malignant one.
