«Lucha libre» is a form of professional wrestling originally from Mexico. The show is a mix of genuine fighting and theatrics. Bolivia adopted and modified this somewhat violent and physically-demanding entertainment. Female wrestlers, indigenous Bolivian women, are known as fighting cholitas. Traditionally, they wear bright multi-layered skirts and plait their hair. Cholitas play one of two characters: either an evil «rudo» or a good «tecnico». Luchadores are looked up to, envied and sometimes feared, even though outside the ring they are regular women with mundane problems.
