The Citarum River in Indonesia is known as the world’s dirtiest river. It’s the main waterway for 20 million people living along its banks. Toxic wastewater from hundreds of factories, household trash and sewage, have turned the river into a giant septic tank. Locals have to rely on the Citarum for drinking water, fish, and rice field irrigation despite health hazards.
