During the renovation of an old house in Amsterdam, a shoebox was found containing postcards and letters from Flip Slier, a young man who wrote them during his time in Nazi concentration camps. Journalist Paula Slier, Flip's cousin, embarks on a personal journey to uncover his life and death. She visits Auschwitz, interviews survivors, and confronts the leader of the Dutch neo-Nazis. Through Flip's letters, the memories of 119 family members lost in the camps are brought back to life.
