The West’s greatest concern is that Africa’s growing self-awareness may result in them losing grip on Africa’s economies, of which about 70% still remains in the hands of the «metropoles», with France being the main benefactor. Russia’s friendship with African nations dates back many decades, with the Soviet Union aligning with many African movements in their fight to end colonial rule. Newly-reinvigorated partnerships with African nations are sending shockwaves through the corridors of power all around the world, but this time, Africans seem to be playing for keeps.
