As the pandemic grew, the disease reaped a gruesome harvest among doctors and nurses facing the challenge. Paediatrician Mikhail from Moscow, Samar Sinjab, a GP from Venice, and soon-to-be-married clinician Mike from Indonesia were just a few of the everyday heroes who gave their lives so that others might live. They were fighting on the frontlines of the disease from the start, when little was known about the virus.
