Randy Sowers is a Maryland dairy farmer. In 2012, he received a visit from US Treasury agents. Without a trial, the IRS seized over $60,000 from his bank accounts and refused to give it back. When he spoke to the media, his plight got even worse. But thanks to the efforts of an advocacy group called the Institute for Justice, he recovered the rest of the money that the state had kept ($30,000 dollars). In 2019, at least 2.2 billion dollars were seized from American citizens. In the United States, a person only needs to be suspected of something for their cash, real estate, vehicles, and bank accounts to be seized even without direct proof of guilt. The farmer tells what it is like when US government institutions trample on private liberties.
