For nearly a year, the Fortress on the Russian border with Prussia was besieged by the German army. Russian soldiers displayed extraordinary courage and resilience, holding their ground and were even fatally poisoned by a gas. To commemorate the centenary of the start of World War I and to honour the soldiers who fell, hundreds of experts and enthusiasts from all over Europe joined forces to recreate that memorable battle.
