This film tells the story of migrants deported from the United States to Mexico. It is a hard-hitting report about people caught between two countries, who are still trying to hold on. American Tofurious Crane heads to the Mexican border to find out what happens to people who are expelled from the US with no money, housing, or prospects for the future.

One stop on this journey is Mexicali, a Mexican city on the border with the United States. Here, local authorities, the National Guard, and the police try to stem the flow of irregular migration. Yet stopping it is almost impossible. It is part of a vast criminal business from which cartels profit.

In Mexico, cartels control the route to the border and charge money for every crossing. On the US side, migrants are met by ICE [Immigration and Customs Enforcement]. People are detained and deported to border cities such as Tijuana.

At the shelter that Tofurious visits in Tijuana, migrants are given only temporary refuge and can’t stay for long. Deportees eke out a living working menial jobs and wait for any chance to cross the border again. Many of these lived most of their adult lives in the States and had jobs, cars, and families, but now find themselves completely torn from their former life, stranded between two countries with no documents or prospects.

Migrants lose their home, work, wife, and children in a single day. This film gives voice to the deportees themselves, as they share their stories with Tofurious.
