The Rosa Khutor ski resort is a beautiful but dangerous place. Due to the mountainous landscape and the proximity of the Black Sea, the weather here is extremely unpredictable. Up to a meter of snow can fall overnight, and after snowfalls the probability of avalanches increases dramatically. Meteorologists and specialists of the anti-avalanche group of Rosa Khutor do their best to minimize the danger. The steepness of the slope, wind, air temperature and humidity help to determine how great the chance of an avalanche is.
What is essential if you're skiing off-piste? And what should you do if you find yourself buried under a mass of snow? Sean Thomas seeks answers from the people whose job it is to fight avalanches.
