This journey takes us to the land of magnificent volcanoes: Kamchatka. It is one of the most active regions within the Pacific Ring of Fire, with its 7,000 large, small, and medium-sized volcanoes. Approximately 30 of them are currently active, either erupting now, poised to erupt, or having erupted long ago.

But how do volcanoes influence our lives, and what makes this region's erupting mountains unique? We find answers to these questions and more from Alexey Ozerov, Kamchatka's chief volcanologist.

Ozerov explains that the root system of volcanoes heats the underlying rock and water, forming geothermal fields that serve as a source of green energy. Volcanoes also release gases into the atmosphere, creating conditions essential for us to breathe and live. ‘A volcano is like a window into the depths of our planet,’ Ozerov says.

Join Sean Thomas in this episode of Inland Visions to learn more about Kamchatka’s fire-breathing giants.
