The Many Faces of Siberia Сезон 3. Серия 33

Siberia is famous for its forests and steppes, but Peter Scott travels there to uncover sides of this remarkable region apart from its fairytale landscapes.

The ‘Irenek Khan’ ethno-rock group blends the sound of folk epics and contemporary genres. They even perform songs including tongue twisters from the indigenous languages of Siberia. New trends are also emerging in cuisine. Suguday, a traditional raw fish dish, which previously wasn’t even seasoned with salt or pepper, is now served with a raspberry/tomato dressing and charred onion. Chefs from around the world come to Siberia for the Taigastro Festival to discover recipes like these. Also, the ‘Smart Chum’ has been invented here. Its creator, Nikolay, has installed an AI-based system with voice control in the traditional tent-like dwelling. Now, you can use the Evenki language to turn on the lights, switch on your TV, or adjust the inside temperature.

Why does folklore have a hypnotic effect in a modern arrangement? And how do you create a translator app for an indigenous language? Find out in this new episode of Inland Visions.
