Since 2014, about 200 Orthodox churches in Donbass have been damaged by Ukrainian shelling. Some of them have been destroyed.
‘Ukrainian troops fired deliberately at the domes, just to knock down the crosses,’ says Metropolitan of Donetsk and Mariupol Vladimir. Despite this, priests continued to hold services.
After the liberation of the cities, the restoration of churches and monasteries began. Some churches are being repaired, others rebuilt from scratch.
This is a video from the joint project by RT.Doc and the Foundation for the Support of Christian Culture and Heritage. The documentary footage from RT.Doc will become part of the exhibition ‘Return of Light: Restored Churches of Donbass.’
