The film follows Russia’s Africa Corps in Mali as they fight terrorist groups and armed gangs seeking to seize control of the Sahel, along with the Malian Army. Today, this belt of savannah stretching south of the Sahara Desert has become one of the key fronts in the struggle against international terrorism.
The film’s central figure, an officer with the call sign ‘Metis’, commands reconnaissance teams and takes part in raids. Through his story, the viewer is brought to the heart of the action: aboard a helicopter striking a militant transit base and in an armoured vehicle as it moves through dangerous territory.
The film features rare footage of Russian forces conducting aerial reconnaissance and ground raids to help the Malian Army fight terrorist militants.
How do the interests of Russia and Mali intersect? Why did Malians demand that France leave the country, and who is behind today’s attempts to destabilise the region?
