Nine months without electricity or bread, and that was life in Aleksandrovsk in the LPR in 2014, when the town found itself under blockade. The city faced a humanitarian catastrophe.

One of the few places where people could still get help was the Holy Ascension Church. ‘My brother, also a priest, and I would drive his car to the bakery and buy bread there. We drove along a road that was under fire from Ukrainian tanks,’ recalls Archpriest Konstantin Lobov.

The priests were following the testament of Father Zosima: ‘Always feed people after the service,’ and they did not break it even in the darkest days.

This is a video in a joint project by RT.Doc and the Foundation for the Support of Christian Culture and Heritage. The documentary footage from RT.Doc will become part of the exhibition ‘Return of Light: Restored Churches of Donbass.’
