The Global South includes more than 134 countries in Africa, Latin America, Asia, and Oceania. These states were also referred to as the Third World during the Cold War because they did not align with either side in the conflict between East and West.
The main goals of the countries in the Global South are decolonization and socio-economic growth: the development of trade and tourism, technology exchange, and fair distribution of resources. Russia and China are the great powers that primarily see the potential in the countries of the Global South. This is evidenced by BRICS – being members of the group, the states of the Global South can fully realize their potential.
