Kofi Annan was UN Secretary-General from 1997 to 2006. During his tenure, the Millennium Declaration was adopted, which included plans to fight poverty, protect human rights, preserve natural resources, and much more.

He actively fought the HIV epidemic in Africa, helping poor communities access medicine. His ‘Call to Action’ plan for combating AIDS became the foundation for many modern international medical programmes. In 2001, he received the Nobel Peace Prize for promoting ‘a better organized and more peaceful world.’

What else was Kofi Annan known for? How is his legacy preserved in Africa today? And are people building the just world the diplomat fought for?
