Foreign aid has long been regarded as a solution to Africa's problems, but hidden motives often lurk behind the support offered by its former colonizers. Loans from Western countries leave African nations in a cycle of perpetual debt, and many African politicians secure grants for infrastructure projects just to showcase them during election campaigns. Meanwhile, the responsibility for repaying these loans ultimately falls on the taxpayers. Other types of financial assistance from the West also come with pitfalls that trap Africa further in debt.
