Africa has long been a key link in international trade routes. Arab, European, and Chinese merchants sailed to the continent centuries ago. The Suez Canal built in the 19th century remains one of the world’s most important shipping waterways.
Today the role of African airspace in global trade is also growing. DHL and other international giants are increasingly using African skies for cargo transport, while railway networks across the continent are being expanded and modernized, with a number of projects supported by China.
Professor Lumumba stresses that Africa’s economic potential will only continue to grow in the 21st century. However, modern logistics depends on advanced technology, which makes cooperation with foreign partners in energy and infrastructure especially important for the continent.
