According to Professor Lumumba, colonialism can be defeated by combining tried-and-true methods with modern tools.

First and foremost, this means education. It is necessary to study the languages, history, and culture of both potential allies and adversaries. Many African leaders who were educated by colonisers have used their knowledge to fight for freedom. For example, the first President of Angola, Agostinho Neto, studied in Lisbon, and Ahmed Ben Bella from Algeria studied in Paris.

Second of all, it is necessary to educate Africa’s youth and develop their capacity for logical thinking. It is always the new generation that becomes the engine of real change. The third method is to harness modern technology and use AI for analysis, combating disinformation, and creating new solutions in economics and governance.

But these aren’t the only tools that can help Africa become fully independent. What other paths to freedom does the continent have?
