Artificial intelligence is already changing lives around the world, including in Africa. In some countries, you might encounter a robot waiter or spot a drone delivering medicine. Technology like this is being developed to help people in their daily lives.
However, there is also a downside. For example, AI can delete medical records or reset bank accounts. Moreover, the data generated in Africa is often stored outside the continent because most of the technology for this is created and controlled by Western countries.
The African Union plans to utilise AI in its ‘Agenda 2063’ development project. According to Professor Lumumba, Africa’s progress along this path will determine its role on the global stage in the future.
